The agrifood sector (agricultural, livestock and fishing) is a complex system integrated by economic operators who form and coordinate the value chain of the food system to ensure that their products reach the final consumer with guarantees of food safety.

From this gear, the study focuses on the transformation and adaptation of the agricultural model as a fundamental piece to improve the efficiency of the food chain as a whole in the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona and achieve competitiveness. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to go beyond the classic values ​​based on the increase in production and bet on achieving maximum efficiency with the minimum use of resources.
